Toyota has unveiled its fully electric people mover, the e-Palette, in Japan, priced at 29 million yen (≈1.74 crore INR). Designed as a purpose-built vehicle (PBV), it combines zero-emission mobility, flexible interior configurations, and hands-free driving potential. The company plans to introduce Level 4 autonomous driving for the shuttle between April 2026 and March 2027, while currently offering Level 2 automation.

e-Palette Dimensions and Passenger-Friendly Design Maximise Space and Accessibility for Emission-Free Transport

Measuring 4,950 mm in length, 2,080 mm in width, and 2,650 mm in height, the Toyota e-Palette is a large electric shuttle EV optimised for passenger and cargo space. Its cabin occupies 2,865 mm of length, 1,780 mm of width, and 2,135 mm of height, with a low floor height of 370 mm (reducible to 270 mm) and large door openings of 1,900 mm × 1,280 mm, ensuring easy ingress and egress, even for those with mobility challenges. The default configuration accommodates 17 people, including four seated passengers and twelve standing passengers. Its boxy design maximises usable interior space, making it versatile for roles such as mobile stores or service hubs.

Performance, Battery, and Charging Details of Toyota e-Palette Highlight 250 Km Range and Fast-Charge Capability

Performance, Battery, and Charging Details of Toyota e-Palette

The e-Palette is powered by a 150 kW (201 hp) AC synchronous motor producing 266 Nm of torque, coupled with a 72.82 kWh battery pack. It offers a top speed of 80 km/h and an approximate 250 km driving range per Japan’s WLTC method. Fast-charging is possible up to 80% in around 40 minutes using a 90 kW DC charger. Additionally, the vehicle is eligible for a subsidy of 15.835 million yen (≈95 lakh INR) under Japan’s Commercial Vehicle Electrification Promotion Project, effectively lowering the cost to 13.165 million yen (≈79 lakh INR).

Toyota’s Path to Hands-Free EV Transport and Level 4 Autonomous Driving Demonstrations in Collaboration With Municipalities

Toyota is developing a Level 4 autonomous driving system for the e-Palette, which will be demonstrated in collaboration with dealerships, municipalities, and automated driving partners. The goal is to enable hands-free operation for public transport and other commercial applications, marking a significant step in Japan’s zero-emission mobility landscape. The flexible interior and autonomous-ready design make the e-Palette an innovative solution for both passenger- and service-oriented transport.
